Notizie storico critiche
Il dipinto fu alluvionato nel 1557 e nel 1589 e subì pertanto antichi restauri. Nel 1941 gli fu dato un antitarlo. Parte della critica ha avanzato l'ipotesi che la predella sia da riconoscersi in quella divisa tra la National Gallery di Dublino e Warwick Castle. Tale ipotesi è stata respinta dalla Padovani nel catalogo della mostra del 1986.>>
